Over the summer, we decided we would spend 6 days including Christmas in Rome. So, we booked the flight & apartment. This week, we were all packed and ready, but had to cancel at the last minute. 3 of the 4 of us got the stomach flu the week leading up to our trip. First, Aidan was knocked out with it. Soon thereafter, I had it. We were supposed to fly out on Friday the 21st. I was all better by Thursday morning, so we decided to proceed as planned. However, Colin woke up in the middle of the night on Thurs-Fri. This was only a few hours before we would have to leave to catch our train to the airport. Because Aidan and I had it so severely, we figured Colin would be the same way. So we canceled. Good thing we paid for travel insurance. And thankfully, the man who owned the apartment is giving us a credit for some other time this year. So, despite feeling a little bummed, we decided that Christmas in Belgium would be good too.
In mid December, one of Mike's bosses took about 6 of his colleagues and their wives out to dinner at a nice restaurant. The men exchanged gifts, and the Colonel gave all the wives these beautiful, sparkling roses. At the dinner, there were representatives from Norway, Italy, Turkey, France, Holland, and U.S. It was a great night.
