Fun-filled weekend IN TOWN!

We had a very enjoyable weekend in town.  We spent the evenings out, and the days were nice and lazy.  On Friday night, we went to the Grand Place in Mons and had dinner at an Italian wood-burning pizzeria, La Primavera.  The food was very good.  Afterwards, we went to the symphony at the Theatre Royale de Mons.  What a fun experience!  We bought tickets right before the show.  The usher showed us to our seats which just happened to be in the 1st row!!  That was very cool.  It was a strings symphony comprised of mostly violins, a few bass and cellos.  They featured Felix Mendelssohn's work.  Wow, they were excellent!

 Sweet--1st row!

The conductor was quite animated...moving every which direction, sometimes even bending himself down toward his toes.  Colin thought he looked mad a few times, but it must have been his serious face.  At one point, Colin started imitating the conductor and moving his arms/hands like him.  Between the conductor contorting his body in funny directions and Colin waving his arms, I was about to explode with laughter.  But being in the front row, I had to cover my face, turn my head and laugh it off silently.  Hard to do, but I managed to not disrupt the entire theater.  ;)

The boys did great being in the theater for close to 2 hours.  They sort of got "ants in the pants" toward the end, but did well overall.

On Saturday night, the Spanish families at our church on base cooked the church community a Spanish fiesta.  Wow, what a treat!  There were about 4 of these massive pans of paella...chicken, chorizo, and even a seafood one.  Delicious!

The table was filled with Spanish tortilla, empanadas, and so much more that I don't even remember the names.  Plus, there was a table filled with desserts including chocolate flan.   And of course, the sangria was flowing.  :)

On Sunday, it was flurrying all day, but didn't amount to much.  Even still, the boys managed to trek out in it and attempted to scoop some into a bucket.   I think they made a couple snowcastles.  (Probably took a while though.)
