We spent Valentine's morning/afternoon with the kiddos at home. We made heart shaped pancakes, or attempted to. Only one really came out looking like a great big heart. The others were oval shaped...they just kept running all over the pan. Ah well! It's the thought, right! Colin and Aidan opened up a gift. They both received "Sheriff" from Cars (their favorite movie!). They have most of the other main characters, but not Sheriff, so they were quite tickled to see him! It was a small gift, but loved immensely!
Mike and I went out that evening to Sqwires where we had a delicious dinner. We had a 9pm reservation (note to self: call earlier than the monday before valentine's day to get a better time!). 9pm wasn't actually bad, though. We got to the restaurant around 8pm and had a drink in the bar while a funky jazz band played some good music. Once at our table, we ordered salads. I ordered the spinach salad which was to die for. It had spinach leaves with carrots, some sort of pickled vegetable, tomatoes, and the most amazing goat cheese fritter in the middle! Ummmmm! (Picture Mike stealing bites of my fritter!) :) The whole salad was dressed in a sweet vinegrette. De-lish! Mike ordered the mixed green salad which was also very good, but he kept taking bites out of mine! For dinner, Mike ordered veal and I had a steak. WOW! The food was excellent. We both loved our meals, but once again, I kept dishing Mike some of the steak. It sat on top of a scoop of fluffy blue cheese mashed potatoes with homemade onion rings draped over the steak. "Onion rings", you say! That's what I was thinking, but there were just a couple thin ones lying on top of the steak. It was probably more for the presentation, but they tasted really good with the meal. Mike and I both ordered a glass of red zinfindel called Shooting Star. It was an excellent glass, and we both decided that we need to try more red zinfindels. We topped the night off with a coffee, decaf of course! Mike had a bailey's coffee and mine without since I was driving. It was a fantastic evening celebrating Mike's birthday and V-Day!
Hope yours was nice too!
