Belgium's National Day

On Sunday, July 21st, Belgium celebrated its National Day.  The holiday commemorates the day in the year 1831 when Belgium's first king, Leopold I, took his oath.  This year's holiday was extra special since a new king was being sworn in.  King Albert II abdicated after 20 years in reign.  His son, Phillipe, was sworn in as the new King of Belgium.  King Phillipe is 53 years old.  The King, and his wife, Queen Mathilde, have young 4 children.

We were pretty far back from the palace, but we saw the King and Queen's motorcade.

The new king and queen and their children made an appearance on the balcony of the palace, but we were too far away.
