In Europe, the week of Ash Wednesday is called the Pre-Lenten break. Most of the schools, Europe-wide, are off for the week to celebrate Carnival (Mardi Gras). It can also be known quite popularly as "Ski Week." And this particular year, we did just that. We drove to the Bavarian region of Germany to a town called Garmisch. We ate schnitzel, drank German beer, skied the slopes, enjoyed the bright sunshine, and relaxed in the hot tub after it all. It was a lovely vacation, and we have some great memories from our trip.
These photos are just after arriving. The boys were so excited to play in the snow after a long drive (It seemed like everyone was headed to the mountains!)

And I couldn't help but photograph this cool light fixture with evergreens and reindeer!
We spent a couple evenings down by the fire.
More to come in Part 2!
