In European schools, the kids are given a two week Easter break usually in April. Since our summers are about a month shorter than American schools, it is a wonderful break during the school year. Since it is 2 weeks long, most families travel. This break though, we decided to stay put and spend most of it in Belgium. Mike had a lot of work travel this month, so we decided staying around would be best. Thankfully, the Belgian weather was so good to us during the 2 week break. It was beautifully sunny and warm reaching the mid to high 70s on most days. Colin, Aidan, and I enjoyed several outings with friends: Brussels Natural History Museum to see dinosaur skeletons, The Lion's Mound in Waterloo to learn about the Battle of Waterloo, and a lovely day spent at the local zoo. Another day, I took the boys to a pool complex, and we even swam outside in a heated pool! Quite an unusual thing to do in Belgium! It was only in the 70s that day, but with the pool being heated, it was lovely. We had so much fun. We also spent everyday kicking around the soccer ball or playing basketball at the house. I enjoyed spending all this time with the boys. Our break ended with a weekend in the Netherlands to see the magnificent Keukenhof gardens and an enjoyable bike-ride around a lake. We were all sad to see it end, but it gave us a taste for the upcoming summer!
