Little Lance Armstrongs!

Yesterday afternoon, we headed to the store to pick-up our pre-ordered bikes for Colin and Aidan. We had ordered them about a week ago, and they were finally ready. Wow...the excitement of two little boys was hard to contain!!! It took about an hour to assemble the seat, handbar, front wheel, pedals & training wheels (all that times 2). And boy...do they like their new bikes! They are Disney Cars Lighting McQueen bikes!! After daddy took them to the gas station to pump up the tires and the boys had a snack for energy, we headed to our parish's school yard to ride around.

Bikes just assembled & the boys are ready!

Headed to OLS to ride in the parking lot!

Ohhhhh, my boys are getting to be SOOOO big! They are growing up too fast!

Colin having fun riding around

Okay...so, I couldn't show some of these photos without telling you about what you didn't see here. Both boys each crashed...Aidan not so bad. However, Colin had a total wipe-out....Bless his little heart! We had first gotten there, and the boys were psyched about riding around. The parking lot was pretty flat (or so we thought). I was putting sunscreen on myself (glimpsing up from time to time and watching the boys tool around) and asking Mike to help me out with my back. All of a sudden, we started to hear Colin cry out. He was all the way across the parking lot, but all of a sudden he was headed down a very slight slope that led toward the fence at that back of the parking lot. (This was a VERY slight slope...but enough of a slope to gain momentum & for a 4 year old to feel out of control). Mike & I started sprinting across the parking lot. They were doing so well riding around in the middle of the lot...how could this have happened so quickly? Well, we could see that there was no humanly possible way to sprint across to save Colin from crashing. It hurt so much to see him fall off his bike. We feared he was going face first into the fence (that's what it looked like from where we were), but we later discovered that he was saved by a curb & some grass/hay that was on top of the curbed area. Still, it looked awful. Michael got to him first and I just started yelling, "Is he ok? IS HE OK????" He cried hard at first (mostly from the scare of the crash), but then he stopped. We made sure that both arms/legs/wrists could bend. Amazingly enough, he was fine! Thank you, Jesus!! It didn't even seem like there was a scratch on him or not one that he noticed YET (we later discovered his elbow had a small boo boo). After many, many hugs & kisses and reassurance that EVERYONE crashes when they are first learning, Colin was back on his bike and toughing it out. However now, we were teaching them to pedal and BRAKE! That is what we spent doing for the rest of the time we were up there. It's just amazing what your perception of FLAT is and what it is to a child who is new to a bike. We just thought we would apply some sunscreen before getting out there to follow them around. They were doing so well riding around until that slight slope. Oh well...lessons learned & much thanks to the BIG GUY for watching over our little boys, especially Colin this time around.

Jess, I know even though there was a slight bump in the day, the boys had a blast! I hope they have lots more fun on their Cars bikes! :)
