Our main plan for Cassis was to hike one of the calanques. There are 3 different ones to hike: Port Miou, Port Pin, and Port Eau. All of these can also be seen by a chaffeured boat ride. But, we wanted to hike. It was a beautiful, sunny day in the low 50s. Since we were only there for the day and wanted to have an afternoon meal, we decided we would just hike the closest one. And hopefully get back another time to do some of the others.
Aidan ready to hike!
Colin, the hiker
Best buds!
Our view as we walked to the start point for the hike
Not a bad place to stop for lunch before starting....:)
The water glistened....
Cap Canaille in the distance....
Climbing up and enjoying the view
Cap Canaille....the highest coastal cliff in Europe at 395 meters
Our hike led us to this lovely cove which starts the next calanque at Port Pin, I believe.

We basked in the sun for a while!
Pirate boys!
We headed back to the village of Cassis to get some lunch. On the start of our hike, we saw people eating sea urchins which are a delicacy here. When we returned from our hike, we planned to eat some, but many of the restaurants were closed at 3:30. We noticed that many places in the South of France partake in the mid-day siesta. So thankfully, we found another place that was open. They didn't have sea urchins, but we settled for some mussels and frites.
Enjoying a chilled rose' wine of the region (grape mix: grenache, syrah, and cabernet sauvignon)
Provence is known for their rose' wines. This one was not sugary sweet like some in the US, but drier with hints of cherry.
Mussels in a garlicky aioli sauce with frites...WOW!
Okay...we splurged, but we were on vacation! Crepe with bananas, chocolate, ice cream and whip cream. Could you say no to this? ;)
Guess what Aidan ate?
Enjoying lunch outdoors with a spectacular view!
