KIDS....they say the darnest things, don't they?!?!!! And most of the time, it's brutal honesty. We try as parents to teach them to say nice things, to talk politely, & be respectful. BUT, it's that curiosity that gets the best of them.
Colin is definitely our curious son. Both boys are curious and love to explore, but Colin loves to talk to people and ask loads of questions (whether we want him to or not!). Maybe he's making up for talking later as a toddler, who knows! Anyway, we've had a couple of parent "cringe" moments. One in particular is when we were taking a walk around the neighborhood as a family. As we were walking, a couple was coming around the corner as we approached the corner. Colin and Aidan had run a few steps ahead of us. That's when we noticed that the man was wearing an eye patch. And before we knew it, Colin was asking, "What's that on your eye? Why are you wearing that? " (Oh no!! Picture Mike and I cringing with embarrassment!!) The couple kept walking. I don't think they were offended, hopefully not anyway. It's not as though Colin was laughing or anything, he was just curious since he doesn't know what an eye patch is.
So yesterday, we were walking again and saw them in the distance ahead. We started to tell Colin not to ask him about his eye patch. But, they turned down the street that was up ahead. Maybe they live that way.....or maybe they saw us and thought, "Let's turn." We'll never know. Hopefully it was the former!
Today at the grocery store, we were in the produce section minding our own business and picking out some veggies. We know a lot of the workers there (that's another story for another day), but we didn't recognize the man working there today. So all of a sudden, Colin spurts out to the man as he was walking by, "Look at your hair!" Again, he wasn't laughing...just simply making a statement. (Picture Jessica cringing and doing an "I'm sorry" smile.) The man was losing his hair on top, but had a lot in the back. I guess we would call that a mullet. Again, I repeat, "Brutal Honesty!" The man, at least, made an effort to smile.
Leave it to kids to say it how it is (even if the parents are cringing with embarrassment)!

Those were hilarious! Especially the second one. I seriously laughed out loud. Folks at work probably think I'm crazy now!
Now the payback has started. I laughed outloud too with the second one.
At least Colin didn't say something like, "Mister, your hair looks terrible!".
