Day 2 & 3

So in the last 2 days, we've ventured off Chievres airforce base where our hotel is located, and have been spending a lot of time over at the S.H.A.P.E. base where Michael and the boys will attend work/school.  It's like a large campus feel.  We spent the morning of Thursday doing what is known as in-processing--getting our ID card for the base, registering our vehicle, & talking to the housing offices.  We kept the boys' backpacks packed from the flight over, so they have been staying busy during our lengthy meetings. They are doing great.

On Thursday, we went to see the house that has been on hold for us. Michael got to know the neighbor through someone he met at the lodge when he was on TDY (temporary duty) in June and facebook.  Anyway, she's a real sweetie and has been incredibly kind in helping us.  She's also American, and her husband and her have a daughter going into 3rd grade next year.   The boys already love playing with their new friend.   Anyway, we toured the house in person and fell in love with it even more.  It's amazing!   It's about 2,300 sqft and 5 bedrooms/2 baths.  I'll post pictures soon (as soon as I find my camera cord in one of those 10 bags we shipped!  ;)   The neighbor and us will have the same landlord.  Our yards are fairly deep and wide (enough for the kids to be kicking balls and not hitting the house or worrying about it going over the fence like our old house).  Plus, there is this large hay field in the back of our 2 homes where the landlord recently trimmed the hay and made them into large haybales.  The 3 kids love climbing on the hay bales and jumping from one to another.  The boys can't wait to move in.  Plus, they will each get their own bedroom, and they have already picked it out.   From our back yard view, we can see 2 horses that belong to a couple of our neighbors.  And from our front yard view (across the road) is a pasture of cows.   The views are so pretty!   After our tour of the house and our verbal agreement that we would take it, we were invited by our neighbor for some wine and snacks.  We sat on our back patio talking and watching the kids in the field of haybales.  It was so wonderful.

On Friday, we were able to get the boys registered for the American school and played at the school's enormous playground.  It's quite nice.  Afterwards, we met up with our new neighbor and her daughter while they helped us with a couple more things in the housing office.  It looks like we will sign a 3 year lease on Monday and move in.  Later, we went back to our neighbor's house to let the kids play and we enjoyed another happy hour while meeting some of her friends who stopped by.  Later, we headed to a wood burning pizza restaurant with more friends of our neighbor.   She has been so warm and kind to us and we are feeling very blessed with the start of our new adventure.

Pictures to come.  Today, we are heading out to explore Brussels.  It's a gorgeous day.  Love to you all!
