Odds and Ends

Just a fun post with lots of pictures mainly around our house and village....
(In case you didn't know, you can click on the pictures to enlarge them. )

View from Chievres Base--where we stayed temporarily when we first got here

The boys and their friend, Savannah, at the haystacks in the common area behind
our yards

Our landlord owns this land too...kids love jumping from 1 haystack to another!

One of the neighbor's horses

Back of our house and yard---shutters are down (skylight in bathroom)

Route de Ath----Pretty drive
This treelined part of the street reminds me of a scene from the movie, A Good Year, with Russell Crowe

This was interesting.  We were at a nice Italian restaurant on one of the 1st nights here.  Each table had a call-button machine to alert your server that you needed something.   "Service, Drink, Check/Bill, Cancel (Button)"

Another view from Cheivres airforce base

We found this great ice cream shop, and were pleasantly surprised when we discovered the pretty courtyard in the back

Happy boys!

Kids' ice cream...very festive!

Gorgeous detail on one of our neighboring homes
(Tom P, can you find which one?)

Gardener's house

Wish we had one of these recessed into our house!

Took a walk and saw this in someone's front yard!

We like to walk around our block, so to speak.   These pretty horses are 1 street parallel to ours.  There's a white and brown horse.

This church, which is near our house, appears to be vacant since the entryway is overgrown.  I stopped by while jogging.  The inscription above the door read "Sancto Antonio..."  I believe this is a Protestant Church since there is a rooster ontop of the steeple.  Protestant churches were adorned with roosters to distinguish them from the Catholic Churches which have crosses.   (Tom P, is this the church you saw on Google Maps?)

Your slower life sounds amazing!!! (I lived in Leiden for 8 weeks and loved it!) I loved that i stopped at a bakery for desserts and breads and got the most delicious meat, cheese, and fruit at the market! I know it is wonderful to have all these "Conveniences" but really, I wish life was more the way you described! I love reading about your adventures!!!
