Last week was the pre-Lenten break, also known as "ski week," that occurs throughout Europe. It usually falls in February, but since Lent is later this year, it was the first week of March. We decided to stay put and do a few day trips. I already posted on our trip to the St. Sixtus Abbey that we did the weekend before. So on Thursday, we set out for an adventure in Brussels with some of our friends. We met at one of the local train stations and rode the train in together. Once there, we enjoyed a quick stop at Starbucks~ a treat for the kids and a coffee treat for the moms. Our main reason for going into Brussels was to see the LEGO exhibition at the Brussels Stock Exchange building. Wow! It was really impressive.
Kids being kids in Brussels
I think we have a few actors on our hands!
Too sweet! (Brussels Grand Place)
Moms had fun too!
LEGO Exhibition
The LEGO pieces were created by an American artist, Nathan Sawaya. He has created replicas of famous paintings and statues out of LEGOs and also created some of his own visions. Brussels is the 1st stop for its tour in Europe.
The Royal Palace (all made out of LEGOs!)
Mona Lisa
Monet painting
Stained glass window (all LEGOs)
Can't believe this T-REX is made of LEGOs! 80,020 bricks in all!!!
Love this one of the swimmer
And the best part of all might just have been the end when the kids could build their own!
After our fun time at the exhibition, we enjoyed lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe near the Grand Place. It was our first time there. The kids sure enjoyed this taste of America in Belgium, and I have to admit, it tasted so good to have a real burger again!
