Rome- Day 3

On Day 3, we celebrated Mike's birthday!!   Happy 34th!   The day before we found a present at a shop near the Pantheon that was perfect for Mike...a globe with old maps.  We recently found an old, dark, wooden writer's desk for him, and the boys and I thought this would look great on top.   Later, we headed to St. Peter's and went to Mass in one of the side altars.   After lunch, we toured the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican Museums.   For dinner, we enjoyed some amazing Roman style pizza.

No pictures were allowed in the Sistine Chapel, but we enjoyed showing the boys all of what Michelangelo painted~ Incredible!

Pizzeria da Baffetto

Every night, we crossed the river from the bridge that takes you from Castel Sant'Angelo into a great neighborhood filled with shops and restaurants.  For the past 2 nights, we kept seeing people lined up outside waiting to get a table at this place below, Pizzeria da Baffetto.  We commented to each other that this place must make good pizza if people are lined up outside.  It's not a big place, and the servers squeeze you in wherever there is room.  We sat at a table with another couple, and that was half the fun.  You could see the chef kneading the dough and then tossing it in the air.   Amazing Roman style pizza, a couple Italian beers, and a charming neighborhood made for a great birthday dinner for Mike!
