Life in full circle....

Rose of Sharon starting its blooms in July

When Mike and I first moved to our current house, we got rid of a bunch of rose bushes in our backyard that weren't doing so well, in fear that the thorns could hurt the boys since our yard is so small. So one day about a year ago, I went to the garden store nearby and picked out a couple new plants that were a little more safe (thornless!). I chose 2 flowering hibiscus plants....one being a white flowering Rose of Sharon and the other being a lavendar flowering Rose of Sharon. Since planting them, I always look forward to July when the two plants really start blooming. And they tend to bloom all summer long making the yard look so cheerful. Since planting them, my mom always comments on how she wants a white flowering Rose of Sharon in her yard. She told us that my Grandma, who passed away about 13 years ago, had one in her yard and really enjoyed it. When my mom told me that, it just made my heart warm, since I don't remember Grandma having one. It's pretty interesting that I chose that same plant without knowing that Grandma had one. I kind of feel like she's watching over us. She knows who my wonderful husband is, and she is seeing my sweet boys as they grow and play. And now, I everytime I see that beautiful flowering bush, I think of her and smile.
