Way back in April, we helped our church plant flowers around the rectory and parking lot. We decided to bring the boys and make a family outing out of it. Boys like to dig, right?....so we thought this would be perfect! We planted some bright orange zinnias around the rectory. Colin and Aidan were big helpers. They liked pulling the wagon above. They were also very good at bringing mom a new plant to put in the flowerbed. Then, they got creative and started making towers and lines out of the empty plant containers. It was a fun time. After all the planting was done, the group of about 10-12 people made a little picnic near the gym. We ordered pizzas and had a few drinks. Mike and I really enjoyed this. It was so nice to feel apart of our church, and we got to know some new people as well. Colin and Aidan were funny. They were the little "bus -boys" of the party....throwing plates away when everyone was done. It was cute. And then, the boys had this trick where they would go up to someone and ask for a cookie. And of course, that person gave them one. Then, they went on and on...to the next person and the next. ha ha! (Mike and I were wondering how we were going to get them to sleep that night!). It was like the boys had 6 more sets of grandparents.
So the reason I'm writing this now is because one of the members, Mark, had taken some photos of the boys and us. (See photos in this post). He wrote me an email this weekend sending me the pictures and had some very kind words to say. He said, "What a treat you all are for all of us. Being around your family puts a smile on everyone's face. Thanks for sharing the boys with us."
Sometimes, as a parent, you just wonder...."Am I doing this right?...Am I raising them right... Am I a good parent?...Am I doing my best...Could I have done better...or acted better" etc etc. You wonder a lot...or at least I do. So, it's very humbling to hear someone say something so kind. And it really makes us feel good to be apart of such a wonderful parish...a community where we feel so incredibly welcomed.
