On the one day that we didn't make it to the beach, we had a good reason: A daytrip to Siena & San Gimignano. These were two beautiful, old cities that wowed us!
Exploring Siena on foot
Approaching the old city wall
Narrow streets
Pretty details
Steep roads too!
Beautiful detailing on this building
Peak view of the Piazza del Campo
Piazza del Campo is a plaza surrounded by lovely, old buildings
Cafes all around!
The tower is called the Torre del Mangia
Enjoying a coffee and snack in the piazza.
Look at the crenelation details at the top of the building... Beautiful!
My boy, Colin :)
Our family!
Pretty sky against the old buildings
Found a small playground
Love these colorful buildings!
We climbed the very narrow and deep steps of the Torre del Mangia. Once we reached the top, we had stunning views of the Piazza del Campo and of the city of Siena. Of course, it started to rain while we were in the tower, but we were fine.
Gorgeous Siena and the surrounding countryside of Tuscany
Siena Cathedral (Duomo) in the background

My boys
Thankful for this opportunity to see the world!
Those might not be mountains, but Tuscany has some good-sized rolling hills!
Such a peaceful setting
Duomo di Siena
Siena's Cathedral is a Catholic medieval church from the 13th century.
It's interior is a black and white stripe marble. Gorgeous!
Cathedral flooring
(During most of the year, the mosaic flooring is covered to protect it. Fortunately, we were there while it was uncovered)
Romulus & Remus
Stunning room!
This room had what looked to be old music hymn books displayed.
Next post: San Gimignano
